DRUMMING FOR IMMUNITY

Drumming is becoming increasingly important as a therapy. alleviating stress and meal health issues by helping to focus the brain. A USA clinical trail study looked at not only the positive mental effects but the chemical reaction that repeated drumming had on patients stress hormone levels and correlating immunity.

We all know that when we get stressed, especially long term chronic stress, we tend to get ill. Cortisol, the stress hormone actively diminishes natural dopamines and decreases natural killer cell activity (fighting bad guys).

“Group drumming resulted in increased dehydroepiandrosterone-to-cortisol ratios, increased natural killer cell activity, and increased lymphokine-activated killer cell activity without alteration in plasma interleukin 2 or interferon-gamma, or in the Beck Anxiety Inventory and the Beck Depression Inventory II.”
